Error Code C2: Meat Probe Detection During Pyrolysis Cycle

Error Code: C2

Appliance Type: Oven

Applicable Brands: AEG, Electrolux, Quelle-Privileg

When your AEG, Electrolux, or Quelle-Privileg oven displays Error Code C2, this indicates a specific safety interlock has been triggered related to the meat probe function during the initiation of the high-temperature cleaning cycle, known as pyrolysis.

The oven electronics have detected the presence of the meat probe (also referred to as the temperature sensor or food sensor) while the system is preparing to enter the pyrolysis cycle.

Why the Meat Probe Must Be Removed:

The pyrolysis cycle operates at extremely high temperatures, often exceeding 450°F (230°C) and sometimes reaching up to 900°F (500°C). The meat probe is constructed with sensitive internal components and metallic materials designed to measure internal food temperatures, not withstand these extreme ambient conditions. Leaving the probe inserted during pyrolysis can lead to:

  1. Component Damage: The plastic handle, internal wiring, or sensors within the probe can melt, deform, or become permanently damaged by the intense heat, rendering the probe unusable.
  2. Safety Interruption: The oven’s safety system is designed to halt the cleaning cycle automatically if the probe is connected, as it recognizes that the probe is not rated for that operational environment. This prevents a potential safety hazard or malfunction.

Resolution Steps:

To clear Error Code C2 and successfully initiate the pyrolysis cleaning sequence, you must ensure the oven is completely clear of the probe:

  1. Power Cycle (If Necessary): Briefly switch the oven off and then back on, though often simply correcting the issue will clear the code on the next attempted start.
  2. Locate and Remove the Meat Probe: Carefully open the oven door. The meat probe is typically inserted into a dedicated socket located on the side wall of the oven cavity. Gently grasp the handle of the probe and pull it straight out of its connection point.
  3. Inspect the Socket: After removing the probe, visually inspect the socket where it was inserted to ensure no debris or remnants of the probe handle remain lodged inside.
  4. Close and Restart: Close the oven door securely. Attempt to restart the pyrolysis cycle as detailed in your appliance’s main operation manual. The oven should now proceed past the initial safety check and begin preheating for the cleaning process.

Important Reminder: Always confirm that the meat probe is completely removed from the oven cavity and disconnected from its internal jack before attempting to start any high-temperature cleaning program.
