What does this error message mean?

This specific error code, Error 01, indicates a crucial safety interlock failure related to the appliance door mechanism. Essentially, the machine’s control system believes that the washing machine door is either physically unsecured or that the electrical signal confirming the door is locked/latched has not been received. For safety reasons, the machine will not commence the wash cycle or spin operation without positive confirmation that the door is securely closed and locked. This failure prevents water from entering the drum when the door is not properly secured.

What can you do?

1. Check if the door is properly closed. Thoroughly inspect the perimeter of the door assembly, ensuring that no items of clothing, such as towels or straps, are caught between the door seal (gasket) and the machine housing. Once clear, reposition the door and push it firmly inwards toward the machine body. You must listen carefully for the distinct, audible “click” sound, which confirms that the door latch mechanism has engaged fully with the strike plate on the appliance frame. Even a slight gap can prevent the door switch from activating.

2. If the door is closed properly but the error message continues to appear, there may be a problem with the door switch. If you have confirmed the door closes with a solid click but Error 01 persists, the issue is likely internal to the door lock assembly (also known as the door switch or latching device). This component is responsible for sending the electrical signal to the main control board confirming that the door is safe to operate.
