What does this error code mean?
Error 10 specifically flags an issue related to the proper functioning of the motor drive system, primarily pointing towards a problem with the motor’s tacho generator (also known as a speed sensor). The tacho generator is a critical component, usually mounted on the back of the motor assembly. Its function is to generate an electrical signal proportional to the rotational speed of the motor. This signal is sent back to the main control board (PCB) to inform it exactly how fast the drum is spinning. If the control board does not receive this feedback signal, or if the signal is erratic or absent, the machine interprets this as the motor not starting or rotating correctly, thus displaying Error 10.
Possible causes and solutions:
Worn motor brushes: The carbon brushes are essential for transferring electrical current to the motor commutator, allowing the motor to turn. Over many cycles, these brushes naturally wear down. If they become too short or damaged (cracked or chipped), they cannot maintain consistent contact with the commutator. This interruption in power supply means the motor will not operate or will operate intermittently, leading to the control board failing to detect the necessary rotational feedback.
Defective tacho generator: If the motor brushes are confirmed to be in good condition, the sensor itself might be the point of failure. The tacho generator can fail internally due to heat, vibration, or electrical failure, resulting in it no longer sending the required speed signal to the electronics, even if the motor windings are fine.
If you have thoroughly checked the motor brushes for wear and replaced them if necessary, and the Error 10 code persists, the issue strongly suggests a fault requiring in-depth electronic diagnosis. Please contact a qualified repair technician for further assistance.
