Washing Machine Error Code 01: Water Supply Problem

Problem: Error code 01 on your Bosch, Siemens, Neff, Constructa, or Gaggenau washing machine signifies an issue with the water supply. Specifically, the appliance is not filling with sufficient water within the programmed timeframe. This can prevent the wash cycle from starting or completing correctly.

Possible Causes:

• Water Tap: The most straightforward cause is that the water tap supplying water to the washing machine is not fully open. It may be partially closed or completely shut off, preventing adequate water flow.
• Low Water Pressure: The household water pressure itself might be too low to fill the machine efficiently. A general guideline for adequate water pressure for washing machines is a flow rate of approximately 10 liters per minute when the tap is fully open. If your home’s water pressure is below this, the machine may not fill properly.
• Clogged Filters: Over time, small particles and sediment can accumulate in the filters that regulate water flow into the washing machine. There are typically filters located at the point where the water hose connects to the appliance, and potentially within the AquaStop system (if equipped), which is designed to prevent water leaks. A blockage in these filters will restrict water entry.
• Kink or Blockage in the Hose: The flexible hose that connects the water tap to the washing machine can become kinked, bent sharply, or obstructed internally. This physical impediment will significantly reduce or halt the flow of water into the machine.

Solution:

1. Check the Water Tap: Locate the water tap connected to your washing machine. Ensure it is turned to its fully open position. Sometimes, taps can be accidentally bumped or partially closed.
2. Test Water Pressure: To verify if your home’s water pressure is sufficient, perform a simple test. Place an empty bucket with a capacity of at least 10 liters directly under the fully opened water tap. Time how long it takes to fill the bucket. If it takes longer than one minute to fill the 10-liter bucket, the water pressure is likely too low. In this scenario, it is recommended to contact a qualified plumber to assess and potentially improve your home’s water pressure.
3. Clean the Filters: To address clogged filters, you will need to disconnect the water supply hose from the washing machine.
   • Inlet Filter: At the back of the washing machine, where the water hose connects, you will find a small mesh filter. Carefully unscrew the hose and gently pull out this filter using pliers. Rinse it thoroughly under running water to remove any debris.
   • AquaStop Filter (if applicable): If your machine has an AquaStop system, there may be an additional filter integrated into the hose or the unit itself. Consult your appliance’s specific manual for the exact location and cleaning procedure for the AquaStop filter. Ensure all filters are clean and free of obstructions before reassembling.
4. Check the Supply Hose: Carefully examine the entire length of the water supply hose. Look for any sharp bends, kinks, or visible damage. If the hose is kinked, gently straighten it to restore proper water flow. If the hose appears damaged internally or externally, it should be replaced.
