Washing Machine Error Code 05: Water Supply Problems

If your Bosch, Siemens, Neff, Constructa, or Gaggenau washing machine is displaying error code 05, it signifies an issue related to the water supply to the appliance. This error typically arises when the machine is unable to fill with water within the expected timeframe. 1. Check the Water Tap: The most fundamental check is to ensure that the water supply to the washing machine is adequate and accessible.

• Fully Open: Verify that the household water tap connected to the washing machine’s supply hose is turned on completely. Sometimes, taps can be partially closed, restricting the flow.
• Sufficient Water Flow: Open the tap fully and check the pressure and volume of water coming out. You can do this by placing a bucket under the tap (after disconnecting the hose) and timing how long it takes to fill. If the flow seems significantly weaker than usual, there might be an issue with your home’s water pressure or a problem further back in the plumbing system.

2. Clean the Filters: Foreign particles or mineral buildup can obstruct water flow into the washing machine. There are several filters that require regular cleaning.

• Supply Hose Filters: At the point where the water supply hose connects to the washing machine, you will find a small mesh filter. Carefully unscrew the hose from the back of the machine. You should see a small, often black or white, filter screen. Gently pull this out using pliers (be careful not to damage it) and rinse it thoroughly under running water. You can use a soft brush to remove any stubborn debris.
• AquaStop System Filter (if present): Some models are equipped with an AquaStop safety system, which also includes a filter. If your appliance has an AquaStop hose (usually a thicker hose with a control unit box), locate its connection point to the tap. There may be a filter integrated here as well. Consult your appliance’s specific manual for the exact location and procedure to clean this filter, as it can vary.
• Reassembly: Once cleaned, ensure the filters are properly reinserted before reconnecting the supply hose.

3. Check the Supply Hose: The hose responsible for delivering water to the machine can develop problems that restrict flow.

• Kinks and Bends: Inspect the entire length of the water supply hose for any sharp bends, twists, or kinks. These can severely impede or completely block the water flow. Straighten out any kinks you find.
• Damage: Look for any signs of wear, cracks, splits, or bulges in the hose material. If the hose is damaged, it must be replaced immediately to prevent leaks and ensure proper function. Ensure you use a replacement hose that is compatible with your appliance.
