Error Code C9 on Your AEG, Electrolux, Quelle, or Privileg Washing Machine? Don’t Panic!
What Does Error Code C9 Mean?
Error code C9 indicates a problem with your washing machine’s drive system, usually related to the motor. This can have several causes, such as worn carbon brushes, a defective tachogenerator, an unbalanced load, or, in rare cases, a faulty motor itself.
Possible Causes:
- Worn Carbon Brushes: These provide the power supply to the motor and wear out over time.
- Defective Tachogenerator: This measures the motor’s speed. If it’s not working correctly, the motor cannot be controlled properly.
- Unbalanced Load: Too much or too little laundry can lead to an unbalanced drum, which strains the motor.
- Defective Drive Motor: In rare cases, the motor itself is damaged.
What Can You Do Yourself?
- Disconnect Power: Turn off the washing machine and unplug it from the power outlet.
- Visual Inspection: Check if the drum rotates smoothly and if there are any unusual noises. See if you can spot any wear on the carbon brushes.
- Check Carbon Brushes: Remove the back panel of the washing machine (consult your manual). Check the length and condition of the carbon brushes. Replace them if necessary.
- Check Tachogenerator: Check the connection of the tachogenerator to the motor. Ensure there are no loose or damaged cables.
- Reset the Machine: Close the washing machine door. Set the program dial to 0. Press and hold the “Soak” and “Prewash” buttons. Turn the program dial counter-clockwise to the spin cycle. Release the buttons and turn the dial to “Stop.” Then try starting a new wash program.
When to Call a Technician?
If error code C9 continues to appear after you have followed these steps, or if you do not feel confident performing the checks, please contact a qualified technician. They can further diagnose the washing machine and carry out the necessary repairs.
